Google Has Positive Outlook on SEO, Advertising Industry

The worst is most likely over for the online advertising industry, Google CEO Eric Schmidt revealed Wednesday at a press conference in New York. Schmidt added that there are signs of recovery in both the European and U.S. markets, and that the field of search engine optimization (SEO) has been vital in the industry's survival.

Google, the world's leading search engine company, has seen continuous expansion even as the rest of the industry suffered from the U.S. recession. Although online search still accounts for 90% of the company's revenue, Google has recently branched out into various Web applications and operating systems, Schmidt explained.

SEO, a marketing strategy geared towards increasing a website's search engine rankings, has also played an increasingly important role in online marketing, according to Google officials. The field has provided a steady stream of advertising revenue for many small and startup companies that would otherwise have suffered from the economic slump.

Google cofounder Sergey Brin was also present at the conference, where he addressed rising concerns that the company is up against other giants such as Microsoft in the enterprise market. According to Brin, all the company's offers are available to both the consumer and the enterprise, so the issue should not be of much concern.

Experts believe the company's confident, “bullish” outlook may have consequential effects on the industry, particularly in SEO. Many expect Google to put more of its efforts into SEO and related programs as search engine marketing becomes a vital part of more and more Web businesses.
